The Mary Bowdon Community Garden was founded in 2013 through a partnership between Hug-A-Root Family Farms, Mission Abilene, and Open-handed Community Ministries. It is dedicated to Mary Bowdon, a dear friend and member of Mission Abilene who died in 2012. The garden is situated on a half acre lot and will eventually feature a 17,000 sq. ft. summer garden, a 17,000 sq. ft. winter garden, a fruit orchard, and a large neighborhood gathering space.
As with all our garden sites, half the produce is available for suggested donations at the Abilene Farmer’s Market and through direct orders, and half is donated to the surrounding neighborhood, distributed by Open-handed Community Ministries.
Mary Bowdon Community Garden is located on Beech St. between N. 13th and N. 14th.
